20 Questions: Fun Facts Q&A

Ok, so I spilled a lot of tea on the last blog… so today, let’s flip the script. Here’s your chance to get to know me a little better, unfiltered — just like if you were sitting in my chair.

Q: How long have you been doing hair?
A: Since 2003. I don’t like to do math or think about how old that makes me feel, so you can do the work if you really care. All I know is it’s been over 20 years, that’s two decades of reality-show material.

Q: What’s your all-time favorite service to do?
A: Extensions, hands down. Hand-tied is my specialty, but I use a lot of different methods to get the best end result. There’s nothing like watching someone go from “meh” to “main character” in one appointment. I love to fixate on one thing and ADHD out on it.

Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Coffee. Strong and iced. Don’t play.

Q: Biggest client pet peeve?
A: When I ask a guy, “What are we doing today?” and he says, “A haircut.” No shit, Sherlock. I know you didn’t come in for an oil change.

Q: What’s the wildest thing that’s ever happened in your chair?
A: Hummmm… how much time you got? Between the tears, the confessions, and that one guy showing me a “hair photo” that turned out to be a nudie…My chair has seen it all. I could write a book. (And maybe one day I will.)

Q: What’s your go-to vibe outside the salon?
A: Couch, couch, couch, bed. (Gym.) But mostly couch.

Q: Red lipstick… why?
A: Listen, I didn’t choose the red lip life… the red lip life chose me. Actually, I don’t wear any makeup except lipstick. Without it, I look tired. With it, I look alive.

Fun fact: I wore Sephora Lip Stain 01 from 2007 to 2014, then switched to Fenty Beauty’s Stunna Lip Paint in “Uncensored.” I guess you could say I’m loyal. And yes, those are literally the only two colors I wear.

Q: Where did you start your career?
A: Chicago, baby! My favorite city, and the city that owns my heart. Vidal Sassoon trained. I’ll never forget the ice-cold walks to the bus stop. That memory lives in my bones.

Q: What’s your favorite part of being behind the chair (besides the chisme)?
A: The connection. I’ve seen people through dating, marriage, births, divorces, graduations, and glow-ups. Hair grows out, but relationships stick. Plus, where else can I talk about therapy, parenting, and scalp health all in the same hour?

Q: Do you ever get nervous doing hair?
A: Yes, every day. Even after all these years, I still feel the weight of holding someone’s self-esteem in my hands.

Q: How do you stay creative after 20+ years in the game?
A: I keep learning. I’ll take a class, scroll inspo at 2 a.m., or play with color formulas like I’m cooking. The moment I stop being curious, I’m done. Also…caffeine.

Fun fact: if I’ve been doing your hair the same way for 3–6 months, I’m gonna ask to switch it up. We might end up back where we started, but I’ll at least try to break the box.

Q: Least favorite part about being a hairstylist?
A: When someone shows me a super high-maintenance cut and style but only spends 30 minutes on their hair twice a month when they go out. Okay, girlfriend, but what about the other 28 days? You don’t have a glam squad. Let’s get real.

Q: What’s your drink order?
A: Water, always, at a restaurant. But if you’re asking my Starbucks order, it’s iced coffee with soy, oat, or almond milk. No sweetener. (Wink wink.)

Q: If you weren’t a stylist, what would you be?
A: A therapist. I got three-quarters through my bachelor’s degree, but I realized if I finished my master’s, I’d be making the same income as doing hair. And I hated homework. So I stuck with hair, but I definitely would’ve been a therapist. I love hearing about people’s lives and figuring out what makes them tick.

Q: Do you ever cry at work?
A: Not often. When people are emotional, I feel like it’s my job to stay steady and listen. But… have I broken down before? Maybe. But we don’t talk about Bruno.

Q: Motto you live by?
A: “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” Also, if you put expectations on other people, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. You can’t control their thoughts or actions, only your own.

Q: What’s something people wouldn’t guess about you?
A: That I’m actually super introverted. I can talk for hours in the salon and love being with people, but when I’m off work, I completely check out. I joke that space is my love language. (Not a funny joke, but I mean it.)

Q: What keeps you from burning out?
A: The gym, iced coffee, and talking shit. Some days the salon feels like a party, some days it’s therapy. Either way, I’m booked and blessed. And yeah… I do yoga - probably the real answer, lol.

Q: What gives you the ick?
A: Bodily fluids. Ew, gross. If you’re sweaty and give me a hug and your sweat ends up on my cheek, just know I’m having a full-blown crash out inside. Also public bathrooms. Hearing people expel fluids from their bodies? Absolutely not. I don’t do well in public restrooms.

Q: What’s your toxic trait?
A: Setting six alarms, snoozing the first three, then panic-getting ready in 20 minutes just to be late dropping my kids off at school.

Final Word
There you go 20 questions, 20 answers, and probably way more info than you ever needed to know about me. But that’s the beauty of this space: it’s not just about hair, it’s about connection.

Now it’s your turn, what’s your toxic trait? Drop it in the comments. Let’s trade some tea. ☕💋
